Bob Bowers
meeting with Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. Governor Doyle signed a World AIDS
Day proclamation marking the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day and Wisconsin's
commitment to the fight against AIDS throughout the year.
......................
There are more than a million Americans living with
HIV. Since the beginning of the epidemic, an estimated 529,113 people with
AIDS have died in the USA.
.....................
When we were told Bob was coming to speak to us I was expecting
the usual talk, dry, boring and with scary pictures, yippee.
To my pleasant surprise, I was wrong. Bob was nothing even
close to boring; he was one of the best speakers I have ever
heard in my entire life. He was such and inspirational person to both my classmates and me. It was
truly amazing to hear his story and listen to him talk about
his life. Bob wasn't sad or depressed, or at least he didn't
show it., he believed that he almost got HIV for a purpose
to spread the news to young people like me and help stop
HIV/AIDS. For 22 years, Bob has been
living with HIV, and if
he can do that, I think his message will enable people to
make smarter decisions.

"I
view my disease as a gift. It
has forced me one day at a time
to stay present and be willing
to change
and grow. I
will win as far as feeling like
I did right in this life. That
I made a difference in my own
life and in the lives of others."
I
liked Bob's
presentation. I thought
it was very informative
and I liked how
honest Mr. Bowers was
about his personal life
and how he grew up. I
also liked how he told
us that you can get out
of any situation. The
whole "Don't judge a
book by its cover"
really applied to him. I
liked how he put his
problems in a funny way
and made us all laugh
(as well as him) at his
problems, rather than
being all "poor me."
It's so cool to see how
he has survived and that
he is willing to teach
and inform students
rather than feeling
sorry for himself.
WOW! Thank you
so much Bob Bowers for sharing you amazing story with me. I am feeling so
empowered for our teeter-totter fundraiser tomorrow, to benefit the AIDS Resource
Center of Wisconsin. We will
raise awareness and fight HIV/AIDS!!!!
